“Serenity Totems” by: Fibrations Studio

15 Sep

Note to Real Mother Goose jury: We posted here on one of my husband’s poetry sites because we have not yet launched the new Serenity Totems site. Following below is a sampling of this new vision we are embracing. We currently have 32, wholly original Serenity Totems completed and in stock. Each Serenity Totem is created as a wholly original work. We are producing 4-5 per week. We can increase that output if demand dictates we do.

Fibrations Studio has been successfully selling our artwork nationwide, via the juried art show circuit, selling online, and doing commission work on contract. For more than two decades, in our Fibrations Studio, we have frequently employed the cylindrical shape in the creation of our art.

We have always been captivated by the cylindrical form, as it depicts motion, a reaching beyond, a rising up – a moving toward the infinite. There is an element of mystery to the roundness. You realize there is more to the work than the eye can fully perceive from any single perspective. What lies further around, hidden? Enticing, these elements of movement, mystery, and infinity this form embodies.

With the Serenity Totems, we are now introducing a new body of work, based exclusively on the cylinder. We envision the Serenity Totem to be not only a source of beauty, to enrich the heart and home, but also a source to kindle a calm spirit and peace of mind.

Our “Serenity Totems” are elegant, richly-colorful, multi-textural, contemporary cylindrical 3-D mixed-media wall and/or tabletop sculpture. We create them by up-cycling a broad range of quality discarded materials, and unique ‘found objects’ from our huge collection of such, which we’ve amassed over a 20 year period.

These include couture fabrics, leather, suede, cords, wires, threads, mercerized yarns, metals, woods, glass, and others, and repurposed fascinating ‘found objects’ of a wide variety and vintage. For many of the final works we also include wholly original fiberart of our own creation.

Utilizing a MAC computer, we first CAD design the pieces, inspired by the unique palette of up-cycled, repurposed, and original elements that we carefully select or create for each original piece.

Then using spiral-wound coated heavy duty fiberboard cylinders, we hand-craft each artwork, meticulously executing our original design.

The pieces can be initially conceived in the vertical or horizontal format, driven either by our personal vision, or conceived on commission to satisfy a client’s particular needs and vision.

Each Serenity Totem is 37-40″ tall with a 3.25-5.5″ diameter. They are lightweight and easy to mount. The pieces retail for $395.00. The pieces which incorporate one of our handwoven elements retail for $545.00. Pieces created on commission a price per contract.
